I just found this game and it seems to be the wetdream of every hardcore simulation fan out there. I believe it is base on Operation Flashpoint but only enhanced. All aspects are modelled better and the gameplay seems to be very fluid and dynamic. You can move inside vehicles, you can just walk inside them (no more button pressing for sitting etc.) and you can even pop your head out and use your weapon in a tight fight. Every vehicle available and better AI. Tons of add-ons and packs that give unlimited amount of replayability. The downside? The price, it is about 150-200 US dollars. :( I am thinking of getting this when I get back from my army training. Seems uber cool.

It says $266 on the site...

I dunno, that's a lot for a game... Even if it's got plenty of replayability, still, remember that you're not allowed to get bored with it for a while, even if there's more to do...

You are right. It is a lot more complex and realistic. I think it is not sold in stores and online shops because it is too complex and realistic(?). Maybe that would kill the gaming experience even for hardcore simulation fans, I dont know. But you can buy it :D I definetly want to try that out, to play a game that actually portrates a combat as realistic as it could be.

im pretty sure that the official VBS site and maybe a handful of related sites are the only place you can buy them as you need a USB key to unlock the game, was their way of fighting piracy :P

*Cough*

You can re-create that game essentially with a ten pound note (Or a fiver for just the original) by buying Operation Flashpoint and checking out the thousands upon thousands of mods.

if i remember right, am sure it stated somewhere that VBS only comes with 3 scenarios ....
Then you got the price for any of the extra modules they sell ....

the above dude is rigt, if you want a war sim go for Flashpoint. am sure theres a few games out now which are also simlar with better grahpics as well (other then vbs)

Honestly, don't bother buying it. It may seem awesome now, but Armed Assault is so close to release anyway that the £70-100 price tag isn't worth it.

A friend online got it.. he said it was okay, but you really need to spend about £150 to actually get much decent out of it (ADF pack, terrain pack, etc.)

Also, the Ai isn't as much improved as it would have you believe.

And another note: The vehicle handling/etc. is pretty much the same as OFP.

Everything in these packs is either already in OFP or availible online for free.

Also, not all vehicles can even be stood in. Aircraft can't be stood in while moving, you have to get into a vehicle then select 'stand up' and then you will only have a very limited/if any movement.

EDIT: Infact, for total clarity, you can't stand in any vehicle without the Convoy Addon pack.

So the conclusion is: Don't buy it.

Just wait for Armed Assault and whenever Inv44 decides to release.

I really doubt Inv44 will release at all. They're working on so much yet they've released nothing except a demo, which doesn't even come with any missions.

Thats because Armed Assault is based on it. In fact, it essentialy IS it.

You have a confirmation on that? But I think Armed Assault will be a dumbed down version of VBS(?)

Looks really cool but its Too rich for a game. you could end up getting board of it and there are other games out there that are good enough.

Exactly. It'd be a waste to get bored of a $266 game...

I'm perfectly fine with BF2, even if it isn't too realistic.

What? I don't need it. Bar perhaps the ability to shoot and walk around in the vehicles and the addons used (which will end up being made by the community anyway). No way is it 'dumbed down'. If you just take a look at some pictures of it you will see that. In addition, it has new technical features that VBS didn't have, like multiple gunner positions, useable M2's for tank commanders when turned out, vastly increased view distance and improved AI.

All this has been confirmed by either pictures or by the dev team.

He's right.

They've finished all the key features now and are looking for a publisher but in the mean time they're adding new features so in their words its no longer a new version of Flashpoint its a completely new game :D

That's what Operation Flashpoint is. Armed Assault was originally going to be Flashpoint 2 until Codemasters got another developer making it, so they took their game and left.

Armed Assault has also an HDR-sound system. This means when you are near a tank and it is on, you cant hear low sounds like your footsteps or someone talk, without radio of course. I THINK, this goes to like, when you hear an explosion nearby, you cant hear good for a while, and your ears can get damaged. Filtering out smaller sounds. Which can make detecting enemy movement harder.

Wrong, wrong, WRONG.

Armed assault is not the sequel to Operation flashpoint.

Codemasters are making a sequel, and so are BIS.

BIS's thus far has only been reffered to as 'game two', and will feature a 'kinda' role-play esque communication system. It will also have destructable buildings. Not much else is known about it.

Armed Assault is just a 'bridge' between OFP and Game 2. The main reason for this is that a large part of the community was calling for the ability to 'upgrade' OFP addons to the next game, so they made Armed Assault as kinda OFP1.5 in a way.

Codemasters version is of unknown stage.

It is kinda funny if AA is Operation Flashpoint 1.5 since Operation Flashpoint 1.96 exists :D

I think the gameplay and grapchics in Operation Flashpoint are the worse I ve seen in a while. The player feels like he is crippled and cant even walk and reload a gun?! The player looks like a box, the animations...oh my god the animations, and the sounds are just horrible. Ever rode a bike? It sounds like you have a wet sack of peanuts and you shake them when you ride. Only the choper sounds are kinda cool. Voice acting...oh my, But I still somehow manage to overcome these and like the game A LOT! I am a bit sad that Armed Assault seems to share some same animations and sounds than Operation Flashpoint, and grapchically it isnt that great, but I am sure it will be better to focus on the gameplay than on the grapchics.
Well, when I get back from army, AA will be out, Crysis will be out, Windows Vista will be out, Craphic cards with SM4 and DX 10 will be out and maybe 1944 will be out. Sad year for me, I need to start updating every aspect on my super computer and buy a whole bunch of games :(((
