Day of Defeat Free weekend... Again!

Another free weekend is coming up! I remember I played during the other free weekend awhile ago. It sucked though because I had finals the monday after the weekend. Well anyway, just thought I'd let you guys know. However, I'm not sure when we can preload the game yet. If anyone knows when we can preload it, please tell me.

Can't wait, I wanted to download the free trial last time, but I only got my computer and internet and stuff like on the Sunday, so was unable. This time I definately will :D

Its fun but I wont pay for it. I dled it last time and after 1 round I was in the top 3 everytime I played it. Just like the good old days when mods were free and I was indestructable.

Even if Red Orchestra isn't Valve, I would still find it rather cool if they did it. I still don't have Red Orchestra, but from some gameplay movies that I've seen, I have mixed opinions about how it looks.

Nanook, it's quite a good game, at least IMO. Much more realistic than arcady-types like DoD. It gives a good feeling of realism and it's more challenging to get good at, but more rewarding when you pwn :D

I first played DoD in the last free weekend and fell in love with it :D. A while later I bought it and I've now had it for a while. Great game. The free weekend worked on me ;)

red orcastra is a great game, i like it more than all of my other wwii games.

that was a waist of 20 bucks

Haha, yeah Chaos :p . I never go by other people's opinions on games. If I haven't played it myself, I may as well not know it's there. And you got ripped off, I got the pack of CSS, DoDS, and HL2dm for $30 :( .

I can see why a lot of people don't like DoDS, but I just like the powerful feel you get from the weapons and the flag system is well-done IMO. It can also be quite tactical if you really put yourself into it. And the balance is usually good (I still despise the Kar98 with the deepest evil sections of my heart) and you can't argue the graphics :)

They got good graphics but the whole game play sucks. I tried it last free weekend and I'll never play the game again. Way too many people talk non-sense and spam the voip. I hate that stupid grenade launcher. I just think the game play is too fast. Where as you can win the game in less that 30 seconds. I would spend the money and buy RO, it's worth the money.

Yes, RO is worth the money and thensome. But DoD is good when you just have to let out that Rambo side of you :) . When you can't take the patience of RO and you just want to mow them down :rolleyes:

Aye, it seems like they have nerfed the beautiful killing maching that we call the kar from the last game (hl1 version) :( It seems pretty pointless to choose the once good now crappy rifle class when everyone is weilding thompsons and BAR/mp44s :mad:

Actually explosiv I meant that the Kar is too powerful in DoD:S :p . I never played the original DoD but I know that, in the right hands, Source's Kar can be devestating. Nearly always a one-shot kill and accurate to a fault. And much too fast to fire in my opinion. I'd like to see any real-life whermacht soldier sprinting while cocking his Kar in one and a half seconds. :p

I've been pwned many times when using something like a Thompson as long as I am up against a Kar. Although the Garand is under-powered since it can't fire nearly as fast as it should and the recoil is much more than it should be I think. If you're strong, you can empty a Garand clip as fast as you can empty a pistol magazine (going from seeing it being fired and learning about it, not personal experience). But I lvoe using it as a sniper rifle in DoDS :D . If you can hit chests/heads accurately, it's like having a Springfield with three times the rate of fire :p

I dunno.. I guess it was because I was so used to the old versions kar98, such an awesome rifle. It doesn't seem the same in source. Maybe it was just because I was playing maps like avalanche on the source engine for the 1st time, I found it hard to get used to when I had played that map with crappy graphics for so long :D (I used to always play the original)

During the last trial experience, I very rarely saw anyone with a rifle. There were tommy guns everywhere! - also lowering my opinion of the kar in a way. Then again that was during the free trial period and I'm guessing it isn't like that normally.

As you have said Justin, the sniper rifle is pretty easy to use - relatively easy to pwn :D

I still think it's a decent 'arcadey' game, and why turn down a free trial? :rolleyes:

I can't wait, I might even buy it if its good. As long as it has iron sights, and a good killing rate, ie, one shot one kill most of the time with rifle, then I am all for it :D

Well, not all the guns have iron sights. I believe the alternate action for the Thompson and the Mp40 is to punch with your other hand. I think the actual rifles have iron sights, though, except for the M1A1 Carbine. It's the backup weapon for whoever uses the "Bazooka," though I wish they added iron sights to it.

Dude...I'm buying red orchestra tommorow...because the DoD:S servers will be overloaded i won't be playing DoD:S :p .

Ugh. I forgot how annoying DoDS was at times. You really have to find a server that limits certain weapons, since it's annoying to see that people would almost always prefer a K98 with a scope over one without.

Tried it for the free weekend. Hated it.

1. People ran like Spitfire1 (old MOH clanmate of mine) had altered the run speed.

2. Where the hell were the British guns?

3. I'm glad I didn't buy it when my clanmates said the game was cool.

I dunno, it's not as good as I thought it would've been. During the last free weekend I had a blast. But now it's kinda like "eh". I guess it's the lack of teamwork, no weapon sway, overly accurate rifles, and rifle gernades blowing up EVERYWHERE.
