He further emphasized the PS3's PC-like abilities, stating there would be no problems running popular flavors of OS, including Linux, Windows, and Mac OS X: "to the PS3, an OS is like any other application." However, he added that "I think that perhaps you'll see a general purpose Cell [built-in] OS." Previously, the company has said that the PS3 hard drive would come with a Linux-based OS preinstalled.

If you ever saw a company wiggle uncomfortably like a fish out of water, it would be Sony right now.

I would not eat breakfast made by Sony.

Your missing the point though. It may be able to run multiple OS's. Wasn't it great when intel-based Macs could run XP with Boot Camp? At least I thought it was. Things like this are interesting, to me at least. But when the thought of Windows running on PS3 brought another question to my mind, "do I really have to upgrade my computer to play 1944: D-Day OO when I could possibly install it on my PS3?" Probably not, but it's a nice thought.

I am buying the PS3 for three reason

1. It has Metal gear Solid, my all time favorite game
2. It will be the most powerful game console to date
3. It has blu-ray, which in my opinion has more possibilities in the long run than HD-DVD.

That is just my two cents

I dont think I'll be buying any consoles, Renting super-nintendo games on the weekends has kept me busy since day 1 and thats about as far as I go with consoles.

The controls and graphics are just too limiting, you sacrafice graphical capability by running on a TV and the game pads that you play on dont allow for the quick reaction that you can acheive with a mouse. If I had to pick a new console I would go for Nintendo's Wii, its controler I believe will catch on and will allow for more future capabilities.

Well, first of all, I can get the Wii and Playstation 3 for free if my dad's company buys alot of products from a specific company.

So, those two are mine for the taking.

As for my Xbox360. It's dead. I brought it back to the Dixons in return for money.
The DVD player was totally borked and the adapter made this awful peeping sound.

They were even so kind to cancel my Live! profile before I knew it.

In any case, my Wii will suffice for FPS games like Red Steel, FarCry, Call of Duty 3, Medal of Honor: Airborne, Metroid Prime, etc.
And my Playstation 3 for basically everything, from game server to Metal Gear Solid IV: Guns of the Patriots, Gran Turismo V, Killzone III, my old Playstation 2 games. (I got the Playstation 2 also for free, only a different company)

Maybe when it has proven itself, I will consider buying another Xbox360.
But for now, I will remember it as the engineering-wise joke.

Im just not a console gamer anymore, I have lost all interest in them, (Except when my friends are around, Super Smash Bros. Melee on the Cube owns) and I have my doubts about the PS3. Its seems like it will cost far too much for it to be a practical console. Sure, it will be powerful, but I already have a powerful computer (I just ordered a 7900GT) so I won't need some £400+ console. My favourite games are on the PC and they only feel ok when played on a PC.

Im getting a Wii though. Damn if it isn't cool, and cheap. :D

When the price drops down a little btit, then i'll get a PS3.

I've had a playstation in my house since I was, like, 4. And they have always been good to me... FIFA 95 anyone?

I think it's interesting how far consoles have improved and are now catching up on pc's, in a sense.

WiiC FTW!:D Sorry, fanboy coming out there. The fact that I can play Duckhunt with a Wiimote has me hooked. But besides that, I don't think this gen of consoles will warrant a switch from PC, considering the new Intel "Conroe" (read: Core 2) processors coming out(a full 100 frames higher than an FX-60 on Doom 3! 100 frames!), I think we can easily blow the consoles out of the water.

Plus, Sony is taking a massive PR risk with the PS3. Considering they've dropped rumble after a very stupid lawsuit, unfortunately introduced their motion-sensing tech AFTER Nintendo (really bad move), hiked the price, have little to no playable demos (and with the ones that work, not many good presenters- see Warhawk E3 demo:D), and no more E3 crutch to walk on, I think that they'll take a hard hit if the PS3 doesn't market well. With the recent failure of the PSP to achieve mainstream acceptance and the loss of the UMD format, I don't know if they can keep this up.

Now, onto Microsoft- or, as the Gamespot kids say, Micro$oft. With the early start of their console, they have a firm grip over the industry, but made the miscalculation that they'd still be competing with current-gen consoles. Hell, the PS2 month-to-month numbers, although quickly falling, are pretty close to 360 sales. But now there are rumors of a price drop- a big one. The current rumor is that, by October, Microsoft would drop the Premium 360 to only $300, and the Core to $225, but MS hasn't given a straight yes or no to the question. If Microsoft can pull this drop off without substantial loss, they would most likely have the Sony-MS war in the bag. I mean, if you were an average Joe, walking down the street in November, looking for a sweet Xmas present for your kid or brother (or father:D ), would you go for the $300 system, or the $600 system, each with near-equal graphics?

Back to Nintendo! Ah, Nintendo has made a smart move and stayed out of the fierce Analog Console(we'll call them ACs for typing's sake) war between Microsoft and Sony by marketing an inventive idea, the Wiimote, to the casual audience- a cheap price, a simple, yet intuitive, controller, and some well-known names. Legend of Zelda, Mario, Metroid- it's all here. If Nintendo successfully markets to older and younger people- not GAMERS, but regular people- then I believe it may outsell both the 360 and PS3, even with lesser graphics.

/Rant;)

Legend of Zelda, Mario, Metroid

Problem with that point is, in my opinion, 2 out of 3 games are out-of-date and boring. And have been re-made and re-sold about 43980170978401797098729085729865829765987645897265 98732466534985634879563985692385632965 times.

It's hard to play RTS's on a console... Same with "point and click" RPG's...

Unless they sell a mouse, but then it's even more money.

I say its worth it, there are a few games that I just have to get that are PS3 exclusive. And remember, the Evo which is coming out soon is a PC console hybrid thing that is $680 so the PS3 is not the most expensive console.

I have an old USB keyboard/mouse combo which also works on my Playstation 2 in games like Killzone.

They said the Playstation 3 will feature keyboard compatibility aswell. ^^
