by the look of the body, i'd have to guess it's some Russian design, between the late 30s and early 50s. couldn't say for sure though.

The first tanki looks like a T-34/85 with some sort of camouflage netting on its turret.
It's a pity it's difficult to see the number of roadwheels as there was a model that had four wheels compared to the T-34's five. I can't remember seeing a T-34 with a storage cylinder or the like but it's been a while since I've looked at that particular tank. It could be a field modification.

thats one of two things. a wired camouflage net as spargonaut said, or some strange lighting or bad photo development.
Did they make AA versions? Because that's what the turret looks like to me.

Hey guys, though it was better to bump an old topic on the same subject then make a new one lol

I came across this on the internet, it seems to go by the name of:
Aureole (air iirc)
However, i cannot find any information on this tank, does anyone know what its designation is ... or of another name it goes by (E.g. Panzer VI = Tiger etc) ?
Cheers :)

it must be fake, or a one off, it has a completely stupid length and amount of wheels. There is also only one hatch whilst there would normally be two. Having said that it could be real....

I've never heard anything about such a vehicle, but it looks like it has a 128mm cannon. I can't tell from the picture, but the chassis is either a Panther or a Tiger 2, probably the latter. It looks very strange, almost like a Jagdtiger that was cut shorter, and the engine deck seems to be almost as tall as the superstructure, unless my eyes are playing tricks on me. Do you have any other pictures?

The only references I can find say it's fictitious. If you have a PS1 you can drive it in 'Panzer Front', it's apparently powered by a gas turbine:

But that list which states it fictional:
Fictional
Aureole /75 T
Aureole /88 C1 C2 P
Aureole s C1 C2
Aureole s/1 C1 C2 C3
E 79/88 T
E 79/128 T R
SU-122c G W
IS-152 G W
IS-152M G W R
T 69E3 G
Shortbull
E 79 is the Standard Panzer ... dont think they where built though
Su 122, the 152 are actual tanks.
EDit: Saying that ... having spent the last hour looking it would appear that the Aureole is made up .... bloody japanese manga! :p

[laughs] I'm a long time player of Panzer Front and is indeed a fictional tank and can achieve extraordinary speeds. I think the makers of the game wanted to have some fun and combined several elements of known tanks to develope their own versions. The T-69E3 is a lot of fun—sort of like a combination between an M5 Stuart and an M3 Grant. The game does have an enormous amount of tanks modelled with good armour and projectile modelling. If you can get your hands on Panzer Front Bis (sort of like a version 1.5) then you'll get extra levels, tanks and a level constructor. Even though the game was on the PS1 it was still one of the most engrossing, atmospheric and realistic tank sims of its time and apart from its graphics etc it still holds up well if your not one for eyecandy. You can play Barkmann's corner, Wittmann at Villers Bocage or his last hurrah later on. Levels are based on real battles.

It really looks less like a tank and more like a mobile artillery piece or tank destroyer (along the lines of a Hetzer)...

The front looks like one of those hetzer little sp tank hunters i think and the back part from a panther and the gun being a bit longer to than normal.

Tanks have turrets that can spin, because it is neded for quicker and more accurate movement to a target. It must be impossibe to aim using wheels.
Also, that barrel is way too huge for close range maneuvers.
That vehicle is built for destroying hard targets from afar cheeply.

Tank "hunter" = tank destroyer as far as I'm concerned...;)

What a pointless and sad thread :)
"Is this tank real?"
"No."
"It's not a tank, it's a mobile gun!"
"ORLY"
"YA RLY"
Blah blah blah blah blah blah...

Why is it said and pointless for a person to ask a question? Although i do agree with the over zelous coments on what constitutes a tank or not ...

Hey, I merely said it looked more like a tank destroyer. That would be relevant in figuring out what it was, though I think its been established that this vehicle is fictional...
Just because a few apparently don't understand that all armored vehicles aren't "tanks" doesn't mean its an irrelevant observation. As I understand it, Enigma only called it a tank for simplicity's sake...
