Ok..I was thinking of getting a good FPS to last me a while, and I was wondering what everyones opinion was.

Should i get Day of Defeat?
Or should I get Red Orchestra?

I heard both have their ups and downs, but I dont trust reviews one sites such as IGN and gamespot, I trust players more.

So what is yalls opinion.

Well DOD: source absolutely sucks so get Red Orchestra. But if you want the original DOD you might as well get both considering DoD is only 10 bucks.

Try RO starting tommorow for a week in the free trial. If you don't like it than get DOD. If you do like it than either get it or decide whether you would rather play a slower paced more laid back but intense in it's own way game, or play a fast paced game that you can easily get good at and generally have a quick fun time. DOD might have another free weekend sometime soon too, although I think they've had two already.

Red Orchestra is a lot slower pace and more realistic, Day of Defeat is very fast paced. Red Orchestra offers more variety and bigger maps. Personally I like both but they're not favorites of mine.

I own both, and if you want a more "1944-ish" experience go with RO. If you're looking for adrenaline pumping, hollywood-glitzy-gutsy fast paced arcade gameplay, go with DoDS. I like DoDS better, but that's just me.:D

Ok thanks guys, I like Realism, and as you said there is a free trial for a week coming out..so ill try that.

If i like it then ill get it, if not, ill try DoD.

RO is a winner.

I would say RO or CoD2 ... I hate CoD2 in normal servers but I only play on the 82airbornes servers and they combine tactical realism and fun action and make CoD2 what it should have been

for a more cinematic game, go with DOD. for realism, go with RO. i have both,i play both. sometimes i will even go back and play bf42... but there are fewer servers now that bf2 is out. CoD series is also fun

Get CoD2 and play on a realism server using the WRM mod. Lot's of fun. I also play on the 82nd AB servers but the weapon sounds make some sound completely dumb. Ex. the MP40 sounds like a ping pong ball bouncing up and down and the tommy sounds like a laser.

ro. hands down. dod gets old fast...very fast..almost faster than its gameplay. ro has slow and fast maps, and tank maps. more fun for your money.

Sorry for the threadjack, but since we are talking about RO I thought I asked instead of creating a whole new thread. Well heres the problem, whenever I get to the main menu and click on "multiplayer", my computer freezes up. It doesnt if I click "practice" though. This has just started happening since the update, it worked fine before that. Has this happened too anyone? How do i fix it?

And just so that this post isnt completely off topic, I'd say go with RO, DoD gets boring after a while, and RO is alot more satisfying when you get a kill.

Go for Red Orchestra. Better replayability, especially for $25.

A problem with RO (at least in Australia) is a severe lack of players. I'm lucky to find a single populated server at peak times. Servers from other countries are too pingy to play on, so they're no use. I hate this, because I love RO when I can play it. :(

I dunno, I think watching the limp Source-powered bodies of your adversaries go flying into the great beyond is much more enjoyable than bodies suddenly going limp.

You cant compare RO to DoD:Source... RO is so much of a better game

Get RO

there both fun. DOD is more arcadey and real easy to pick up and play.
RO is much more realistic and intence and takes a lot of patience but is still a whole lot of fun. I play both fairly regularly.

I think this would be more suited for Red Orchestras official site. Just post in their support section (http://redorchestragame.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=11).

Why are people saying Cod2? Cod2 is rubbish 82ndab server just has a mod but its no where near the realism of RO

I tried to register buy it siad my email address is blocked by the admin. Then it siad my other one was blocked by admin. Then I made up one and it said it was blocked by admin. They must be having some technical problems.

Well it should be CoD2 or RO. DoD is a lot more 'rubbish' then CoD2. You can't even aim down the sights with some weapons in DoD. Almost every CoD2 server has a mod which improve gameplay and such. 82ndAB isn't the only realism server it's just has a few 60 man servers.

I personally prefer DoD:S atm, but that is liable to change as I play RO over this free demo, and get used to it

If you want a game that last ages get RO it allways comes out with patches and is a very realistic and awesome game! (Nice graphics aswell)

DOD:....meh

you can't use a generic email to register on the main RO forum, use a gmail account, but what it sounds like is your Norton (or similar) is popping up in the background to ask for permission for RO.exe and it's freezing your game, double check that it's allowed, even allow it again to be sure

oh and my vote is with RO, the game just has a much more realistic scale to it, whereas in DoD, I don't think I've seen a single point to point view distance longer than 100 yards or so, maybe that's just me

Arcade person= DoD Realism person= RO
Both are nice but IMO RO somehow feels more like a proper finished game than DoD, it has so much to offer and has a lot of neat touches. Also some cool mods for coming up too.

Btw, DoD 1.3>Source, but it is dying pretty fast :<

PF-Kenny
08-03-2006, 06:25 PM
if you like dod 1.3 you outa try the pucker factor gaming servers, they still fill up quite often, and usually have half a dozen or more people on em, there are also lots of other servers that fill up regularily, dod 1.3 is FAR from dead

RO has a greater learning curve but is by far the better game. Its so realistic and that makes it so much more enjoyable that the arcadey DoD:S.
RO FTW

I would never pay for DoD:S it feels like an semi-well made mod - not a game.
