Hi, I started steam and lookie what I saw under 'coming soon'?
Half-Life 2: Lost Coast
If the people at Valve havn't already won your hearts over with there amazing game then you should most likely leave. Because you might not deserve this. Lost Coast is an Add-on, not an expansion pack to Half-Life 2. Please don't confuse Lost Coast and "Aftermath".
The plot is unknown and no connections between the Coast and Aftermath have been made, what we do know is that Valve had originally wanted to put the coast in the game, and well never got around to doing it. So now that they have had some free time well its soon to be on our computers thats for sure. Also if your card had ANY trouble running Half-life 2 I wish you great luck on this new level. This thing litterally require top-notch preformance, I am even scared of how my ATI 9800 will handle it. The recommendation is X800, so this is not your Grandmas Half-Life 2 :P.

Well? Sounds good to me, alltough I'm unsure wether I'm able to play it well. :rolleyes:

I Think it looks extremely purdy unfortunately my 9800 im pretty sure would die with that. lucky i can "borrow" my dads alienware :P
Cool map, hope it also brings something new to the storyline of half life and is not just a show off of the source engine. Dont think my current PC will run the new graphic features but I'm going to buy a new one

Ya they were talking about this game months ago, They made it sound like it was just a little lighting project they were working on, and now it sounds even more like that, to kinda show off the power of the Source engine.
Lets see what happens. :D

It's a MOD that some people made thats just so good there going to release it as a regular game, kinda like DoD, don't know if it's WW2 based, just saying.
Before this card I had a Radeon 9000, and man I ran HL2 with never a worry, ya I had no shadows and stuff like that but the game still looked amazing.
I ran all source MODs with never any lag what so ever.
It just shows you that you can have the best damn video card in the world but if you don't have the PC to back it up you got Shit*.
Thats why I don't under stand why people get DSL, or Cable but there PC is from 1999, you Internet is only as fast as your PC, if your PC can't handle large pics or flash web pages then of course your INTERNET is going to be slow.

Browsing webpages and watching movies or downloading songs doesn't require a radeon this or geforce that... nor does it require athlon 64 4000+ dual processor technology. I know it's hard imagining people owning computers without gaming as its sole purpose, but it happens my friend :(

? I'm not talking about the Vid card on that part of my reply, I was giving an example of Fast "PC's", if you have a slow PC then your Internet means Crap.
And I wasn't saying anything about a athlon 64, but if you have a processor from the 90's your not getting the speed that you pay from the internet provider, and thats FACT my friend.
web pages become larger and larger every day, and you need an upto date PC to keep up with the times, I have a PC from 2000, AMD 1.2 or something and it works fine with DSL, BUT... my new PC runs the DSL faster.
If your PC can't handle 3.0 mbps then it can't handle it and it's time to move on.
Also I was talking about Gamers because i'm on a Gamers forum.. :D

Maybe some people like downloading at rates higher than 5 kb/s. No matter how crappy your hardware is (unless it's 10 years old) you will download much faster on cable / DSL than on 56k. That is FACT my friend. This allows faster web browsing, streaming live media, faster downloading, instant-on connection, stable internet connectivity with far fewer random disassociations or lag spikes, no hassle of getting an additional phoneline, low hardware-based-performance online interaction such as online poker or graffiti or word games, VoIP abilities with utilities that require fast connections, etc. etc. Even if your computer is crap, these experiences will be enhanced greatly by cable or DSL over the atrocious 56k. I know how computers work, I'm an electrical engineer major and my internship / work over the summer is all about information technology.

The news is pretty old, but still awesome.
Lost Coast has generally become just another add-on primarily to show off the new HDR with the source engine. But it isn't a *must have* in order to play the map. DOD:Source will have HDR (which will need a computer to have a 6800GTX or a X800 with 256mb gddram in order to play), but like DODS, you can turn off the HDR in LC and play it just fine. And it would still look awesome.
At the moment, people are speculating/predicting that these will the minimum/recommended requirements for HL2:LC / DODS ::
CPU = 3.2 GHz
RAM = 1GB DDR
HDD = 4GB (for LC - I think)
Video = nVidia 6800GTX 256MB GDDR3 or ATI X800 256MB GDDR3
--
Computers these days, for the generally normal pc user who just needs it to surf the internet, check email and do a bit of word processing, all they need is a PIII 600mhz, 128 (or even just 64)mb of SDRAM, and just 64mb (recommended for Flash and many GIFs) of onboard graphics memory. And it would still be fast enough to handle cable/dsl internet.
As many others here have said, it really is quite sad when people get the best-best-best computers... and just use it for MS Word and Outlook Express.
No matter how crappy your hardware is (unless it's 10 years old) you will download much faster on cable / DSL than on 56k. That is FACT my friend.
Actually it isn't. If it is, how do you explain a guy who has a 2ghz, 512mb ddr, 128mb gddr computer, who is on a cable/dsl line with a max of 4mbps on a non-peak hour (say, 4AM), get an average 3 bits per second transfer rate over a 4to5-hour period?
Also, yes, it's true that no matter how old you computer is, you still download at the same rate as a new computer, but the reason why some people say that is that they don't take into consideration that fact that the computer can be so old that it takes more time to process all the info and load it up onto the screen - slower than their computer is send/receiving. So that way, it only appears that their transfer is slow.

Ok I just left my friends house I have his PC with me,I going to install a new processor because he got Cable and it's fast Yes but not as fast as it should be, yes of course your going to download faster then 56k Duh!!!, but your not getting the FULL POTENTIAL of the Cable/DSL is what i'm saying.
And like I said, your internet is only as fast as your PC, Hence: if you have a somewhat fast PC your getting fast speeds, if you have a slow PC, like my friends PC, then the web pages are not opening as Fast as they should because the PC can not handle that much info at one time.
The old PC takes forever to open up certain pages and download media because it is to slow, and my new PC downloads with no problem, also with games my old PC lags on DoD, my new one doesn't, PING wise.
And I don't care if your Bill Gates, I know how internet works with slow PC's and your not getting the "Speed you should with a slow PC". :D

If you're going to use out-of-the-norm cases and be nit-picky, I will respond by saying
At the same time, some 56k user on a supercomputer is getting disconnected every 5 seconds from his ISP, and after a 4to5-hour period he has downloaded 0 kb because he keeps disconnecting.
I have an analogy to your question. I say cheetahs will always run faster than humans, and that's a FACT. Then you come along and tell me "no that's not true, what if the cheetah had all four legs sawed off and its brain removed?" which is clearly the majority case with most cheetahs...
My Cable/DSL disconnects sometimes too when a thunderstorm disables the service, and at this time yeah sure, some 56k guy would be downloading faster than me. If you understand my point, you're using an outlier case to argue a trite point with me.

:D
And I never argued this point with you. But what you started out saying was that you didn't see why people with crappy computers bothered getting cable or DSL, and I simply responded to that. I never argued that slow processing speed never slows down actual performance overall.

? what ?
thats the whole point? why would people with Crappy Computers "crappy meaning slow crappy computers" get DSL/Cable when there PC can't handle it, and your saying you didn't argue with me on this subject? ok you lost me.... :confused:

Your computer may have a 486 DX2 or Pentium 66MHz, but you can always have high bandwidth internet to max. 100Mbps...
It depends on your bus speed and on your Ethernet card you have installed not on the computer itself well I would go back as far as 386's but you know what I mean...
Processor with clocks lower than 50MHz will have trouble getting high-res JPG's or or high-res pictures, but not only from the internet itself...
