I'm planning on also serving in the Canadian forces. Not sure exactly what I want to do in the CF, but I'll find something. ;)

I was going to join the Australian Defence Force but decided not too. These days war is just pointless. I don't want to fight for something I don't believe in nor other countries problems.

Anyway if I joined the Military I won't be around for the release of 1944! :p

Also our army *ahem* sucks.

It's tiny, it's under-funded and all you'll end up doing is going to Africa or whatever to drop care packages.

What he means, I assume, is we're more of a peacekeeping force. So we go help all the other silly countries that got themselves in their own mess and expect others to help them... I don't/can't agree with that.

I've considered it in and out, but the reserve seems most attractive to me *a supplementary pension just for being on call*. Of course, an IED could blow me up. Overall, for now I'm planning on working part-time and getting an education.

We have Warrant Officers. They seem to be a half-way between officers and NCO's.

I'm planning on joining the British Army. Firstly because of the fact i got an A-level when i was still at high school (only one of like 6 people to do that in the UK ) They contacted me and offered to send me to a military academy where they groom officers, BUT my grades in other subjects were not up to their standard. They then proceeded to offer to pay all of my university fee's and during my breaks send me away to Cyprus (or other locations the army has training centres) to train at them then at the end of my course in university I will be given £3000 upon entering Sandhurst.

Well you asked. . . :)

I might go to the Koninklijke Luchtmacht (dutch airforce) since normal pilot school is so damn expensive. In the airforce you get payed to learn and earn your wings. And you get alot of flight hours for free which is really important if you want to switch to civilian airliners afterwards. But first I'm gonna finish my study to enjoy the free and feastfull life of university :D

I'm not going to join the military, unlike most (if not all) of you here. I did consider it at one point, but I doubt I'd be up to it.

I'll just stay at home with my career in IT, thanks very much. :D

I am not sure the difference between the Warrant Officer in your nation and the Warrant Officer in the CF. . . but in the CF it is the third highest Ranking NCM and takes a bloody lot to get to that rank. . . (Gotta go threw Private, Corporal, Master Corporal, Sergeant, then Warrant Officer, Master Warrant Officer, and finaly Chief Warrant Officer).

 Could've sworn that we've had a thread like this before but meh..

As I've said before. I'm currently in the Air Training Corps, a volountary organisation for young people which is funded by the MOD and has many ex-RAF officers in the ranks. Not too long ago, I was promoted to the rank of Coporal (which came as quite a suprise to me as there was stiff competition from other senior cadets).

I'm on a gliding scholarship at the moment (every weekend). A rare opportunity (took me bloody ages to get a spot) which allows cadets to learn how to fly the vigilant glider. A mate of mine went solo on his course, hoping to do the same! Hardest thing i've done so far is taxying the aircraft, especially when it's windy. The wings on the vigilant are pretty long and - as it is a glider - very light so the aircraft is thrown about and you have to counteract the wind with the rudder pedals. Landing next weekend! Most of the other lads from my Sqn have already done it and say it's fairly easy, I think otherwise lol. Sadly, we weren't able to get up this weekend 'cause of the wind and overall poor visability. Spent most of the time cleaning the aircraft and our sleeping quarters... :( better luck next weekend eh?

I love the corps, it's opened doors for me and really boosted my confidence as well as fitness. I've got that 'get up and go' or 'just do it' state of mind now :D. In 6th form (college) now and am considering persuing a career in the RAF or other force.

Edit - I knew it! ;) :p - Military Service Thread (http://www.1944game.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2576)

I'm intrested in joining unfortunatly I live in switzerand at the moment and so can't do CCF. But in my gap year I might join in a Gap Year Commision to see if I like it or not. Not sure which to choose from out of the RN, RM and Army. RAF isn't for me, takes too long to train.

I might join one of the intelligence services instead like MI5 or MI6, but the military is my current favourite.

If I'd join the German Army I'd try to join the Airforce or the Navy...
But unfortunately I've hurt my knee and can't do any sports... well but to be honest: I never had the intention to join the army for a longer time than the Wehrdienst (Germans have to join the army for several month for basic training or have to do civil work).

A friend of me joined the German Navy and is going to be communication officer... he has posted some pictures in the internet and I am somewhat jealous cause he has already seen so many countries...
Well if I'm lucky I will come around in my job... who knows... until then I'll stick to virtual armies ;)

Moved here, because while not really a political debate. It really depends on how the nations military is setup and if service is a requirement of your nation.

I am currently in the AAFC and it will hopfully help me ease into a millitary carreer. It has helped me adjust to a millitary lifestyle though. like i know about rank, survival, fieldcrart, life on a millitary base etc

So yeah hopfully when i leave school to join the army it wont be to hard for me. It should be a little easier seeing as i have a friend joining with me aswell. Just hope we are in the same unit.

Has anyone here been sent overseas or have any stories from overseas?

I tried for the army of NZ back in the 90's,to dumb you might say and did not pass the test,so tried the part time army, got in for the infantry.
But i was just not fit enough and weak in the mental stuff,i could not pass the runining test,so only did the first 3 weeks.I got to try again but only last a couple of days, where i then quit and went home,i wish i had stuck it out though now.I still would not mind or dream of joining up again, but not fit etc.. now days.
The only way would be if they had the draft and some big war came that i could get in maybe?.

I bet if you just do a bit of training hire a personal trainer you could pass it.
If you WANT to do something then you CAN do it :)

Well 34,and to me it seems over the hill,40 and its all down hill, but yes if i wanted to i supose i could, but right now im not in the state too or attitude and mental mind to realy pull it off.
If i did want to give it another go it would have to be before 40,then again i dont know if they let part time soldiers here in NZ join up that late?.

I have no interest in signing a contract saying the government will not be held accountable for any injuries or loss of life.
Yes, I am a pacifist. Yes, I'm contributing to this game. So?
