View Full Version : Welcome to Britain; the land of political correctness

I think we all know how much of a joke Britain is at the moment. I mean, its really stupid. You can barely say anything now in case you accidentally offend someone. The word 'brainstorm', for example, despite being a word which meant to think up lots of ideas, was considered offensive to people with mental disabilities. Well thats stupid. I have epillepsy and I have no problem with it. And of course there is all that fuss over the three little pigs. The list is endless.
Now there is this; a film which has just been made that celebrates the aniversary of the ending of the slave trade in Britain has been condemned as offensive because it doesn't feature enough black people in it. True, it does only contain one black person in the whole film, but so what? The film is about the political side of it all and how slavery was abolished from the top.
Now my biggest point. You see, the general outcry over the film went further than that. In the newspaper today I read how Tony Blair has made multiple public apologies expressing his regret and sorrow over the matter. What gives? The government is apologising over a film, yet it refuses to apologise over more substantial historical controversies. For example, being slightly affected by this myself considering my families history, I still have yet to see the British government apologising for the treacherous act they commited after WWII where they sent hundreds of Eastern Europeans to their deaths by sending them to the USSR after being captured whilst fighting for the Germans. Yet no apology for them, just an apology for a few stuck up people who are offended by a film.

Is the film the same one called "Amazing Grace?" Stuck up people who aren't even from the group that is supposed to be offended are beyond annoying. There is a lot of this in America, especially in the education area.
Some idiots in the UK Guardian were also whining about the lack of black characters in Flags of Our Fathers...even though the story is about a front line unit (and black characters are shown).
It's not even the government's place to be apologizing, unless they somehow paid for the film.

You should have seen me and my office buddies laughing our heads off in the shop in our office building when we seen the newspapers mocking David Cameron after the dude in the hoodie gave him the figure or whatever.
It was like a small victory over all the crap they sprout ... probably off topic but it needed to be said :)

PC is the scourge of free speech. Who gives a fuck if someone is offended by something, let them deal with it, being offended wont hurt anyone. If people are too sissy and bitch whenever someone says something they dont like then they need to toughen up. Seriously no one cares people.

Yep, this is just another example of how pathetic and soft the British government now is.
The way I personally see it is one set of rules apply to one set of people, wheras they don't apply to the next.
It really really P's me off that - year after year - slave trade is brought up and there are apologies like it happened only yesterday. With respect, it's pretty pathetic how it needs to be brought up so much. After all, we were the first empire to abolish mass slavery. Plus many slaves were literally given away by their kings (in return for something else off the Europeans) and it was common practice for tribes to take rival tribes as slaves (spoils of war). Heck it still goes on today in Africa.
Plus, why aren't apologies made for the thousands of Europeans that were taken from their native lands and forced to work as slaves in North Africa? (way before the European slave trade). It's almost like things like this never happened and should be forgotten because it's the other way around (in terms of race). Of course, the number of slaves taken were greater in the days of colonialism, but it's still a large statistic that is widely ignored. Off topic I know but check out the link - .Here. I just want to know who the heck is offended all the time by unintentional un-political-correctness.

Grr, there's something like this happening in America too. Ever since Barack Obama became a presidential candidate, there has been so much 'contraversy' over the essence of what it is to 'be black' and the offense caused by our history of slavery. I HATE when black people complain because their ancestors suffered here...THEY didn't suffer. Their ancestors did. They have nothing to complain about and no reason to be given special treatment.
And all this bullshit about Barack Obama not being black because he doesn't have American bondage in his ancestry. That he's...what did they call him, "African-African-American" or something stupid like that. Black is the common name for a skin tone, not an ancestry. All 'caucasian' people are considered white...so why should some blacks be black and some be something else? The truth is it doesn't fucking matter. People make too big a deal over things like race. The prejudice only exists because the media mentions it so fuckin much. Shut the hell up about it and maybe it will go away.
And I hate the way our school systems treat political correctness. Some teachers go out of their way to make sure everything is 'appropriate'. I respect the teachers who say 'screw it' and do what they feel is good for the class and stuff.
Stupid government. What good did governments ever do anyway? :p

The thing that peeves me the most is the way it creeped into school books and exams. Like in science papers I never ever saw a question where "John Smith is trying to mix water and francium", it was always "Muhammed Ahmed Saleem is trying to mix water and francium". Come on, I know that there are plenty of foreigners in our country, but it is still England for pities sake.
It has gone so far the other way that I am beginning to feel like the minority, or prejudicised (word?) against.
I am a White English Male, the most politically incorrect type of person in England.

College "Speech codes" here in the U.S. now forbid any sort of insensitive talk. It's bull shit. If i want to be offensive, i'm gonna be offensive.
And for the record, if I go to the college and they get pissed at me for saying something insensitive and they punish me, I'm going to slap the biggest law suit on their asses since that guy that sued Michael Richards.
