Historically, China has been at odds with neighbors such as Vietnam and Taiwan, and the SE Asian peninsula. It makes no sense that they would be rapdily expanding their military-America has had no intention of invading and never will unless they strike any nation around them.

Also, it is conveniently placed that American-Vietnamese relations are getting a little more friendly.

If this buildup is indeed going to be a threat to the nations that surround China (except North Korea, which can go to hell as far as i'm concerned), then I think we should definitley let the Chinese know that we intend to respect the sovereignty of the nations of East Asia.

Your thoughts?

Bit of an under statment considering they spent a good portion of the 20th centry killing each other :p

I think this one begs the question of why should the west get involved in the Chinese Civil War?

I can guarantee you one thing:

Even though China still use human-wave tactics for their infantry, they will win over America in a situation of war.

There's an article somewhere about the new supercarrier China is building, I'll try to dig it up.

Of course! Hell, I think the USA Media, with it's government-hating as of now, would simply walk up to the landing beaches, yelling, "Welcome! Please, come in, try the pizza!"

China dosen't use human-wave tactics....We should try to avoid those statements, if we don't know the matter precisley.:) It's naive to think that Chinese militarty is old-fashioned. It's not.

And btw...War with China=End of the world. There are 1.4 billions of Chinese...:)
They could send only one tank and several dozens of infantry armies each consisting of 100 millions soldiers to any given country...
Their enemy will blow the tank, Chinese infantrymen will surrender and given country is in Chinese hands :P Yeah, yeah.

I try not to think about it. At any rate, its Americas problem and not ours.

Ah the joys of no longer being a super power.

No no no, i don't want war with China. Jesus no i don't (I live 30 miles from San Francisco. If there was a nuclear strike i would die slowly from fallout). We were involved in the Chinese Civil War, allied with the nationalist Chiang Kai Shek. When Mao won they fled to Taiwan-thus the friendly Taiwanese-American relations.

I was just posing this as a debate idea. I don't like to see arms buildup, so it makes me wonder what China is aiming at. The international community would be breathing down it's neck if it tried to attack its neighbors, so it just seems a little odd to me.

I agree with Enigma about this being an understatement. Ever hear of the first Sino-Japanese war, Appleskates? The second Sino-Japanese War? Unit 731? The fact that Japan has made no effort to honour their victims?

China today still suffers from the conflict between the last main power in Asia, you can bet the Chinese hold even stronger hate. If it were a different century Chinese Artillary would already be pounding the island of the red sun.

They are developed in japan but they are mass produced in china becuase it's cheaper. I looked it up and they are either made in china or taiwan, and if they are made in taiwan the factories are usally on the chinese mainland.

I am aware of the Sino-Japanese war and 731, I just thought it was common knowledge that the Japanese and Chinese despised eachother, so I didn't put it in the post. No, i'm not saying I favor Japan over China, as (and this is a very rare sort of thing for me to be saying) I don't believe that Japan has expressed enough sorrow over the events.
