So what do you think? Perhaps french troops will soon be deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan?

I don't know about them being deployed or not, but I do remember reading the news where some idiot said something along the lines of "we will riot if he wins".

Yeah because he doesnt care about the poor people that live in the suburbs of french cities. Those people really need some help. But it seems nothing will happen with this new president.

I heard from a Morrocan friend of mine that they hate him because he "insulted them" during the riots of 2005. Maybe "he doesnt care about the poor people" was one of the campaign slogans of Royal? :P

he seems alot more sensible then royale. I think french-US relations will go up since he disagreed the way that France handled the Iraq war:
Nicolas Sarkozy, like almost all French politicians, disapproved of the US led invasion of Iraq, when other people believe he agreed, but was nonetheless critical of the way Jacques Chirac and his foreign minister Dominique de Villepin expressed France's opposition to the war. Talking at the French-American Foundation in Washington, D.C. on September 12, 2006, he denounced what he called the "French arrogance" and said: "It is bad manners to embarrass one's allies or sound like one is taking delight in their troubles.". He also added: "We must never again turn our disagreements into a crisis." This speech, pronounced without the assent of the French president by a member of the French government traveling abroad (Sarkozy was still Minister of the Interior), was criticised by many in France. Jacques Chirac reportedly said in private that Sarkozy's speech was "appalling" and "a shameful act".
have a look at these:

all sarkozy's policies at least make sense, those of you who have never been to or lived in france probably won't know how stupid the 35-hour week is, which he's promised to abolish, you can get sent to jail if you work overtime.

I especially like this part:
86% TURNOUT IN FRANCE VOTING...
Do French voters have to pay a fine for not voting (like in Belgium) or are there no penalties for not voting? If there are no penalties than that figure is awesome.

I believe there are no penalties... not sure...
I've seen alot of politicians like him in europe also in Holland. They talk alot but not much happens. Ok I might be generalizing it but I dont think he is what he pretends to be. When the riots were he was saying he would get rid of the people doing the riots and thats why many people dont like him. It seems he doesnt care about why those people are rioting he only cares that they keep their mouth shut and dont cause any problems.
