DISCLAIMERS:
1. I am British, so this mainly applies to Britain. Attempting to comment on the US would be ignorant and ill informed.
2. This article/debate is not rascist in any way. At least, its not intended to be.
I always like writing articles or having debates on politics/world issues. So here is my contribution to you lot.
There is little doubt that the world faces many problems at the moment. Britain is by no means excluded from this and, arguably, suffers from more problems than some other countries. One of the biggest problems at the moment, if anyone hasn't noticed, is terrorism. The bad news, however, is that it only seems to escalating.
I presume most, if not all of you, are aware of the recent bombing attempts in London and Glasgow (as well several other bomb scares acrross the country, including one in Liverpool and one near me). I read an interesting newspaper article last night which did a very good job of mocking the failed attempts, whilst at the same time highlighting just how easily the bombs could have succeeded. It was only by coincidence that these bombs were detected; one car bomb was actually given a ticket for being parked on a double yellow line, another was clamped and a third discovered by paramedics attending to a paraletically drunk man.
The article I read also spoke about the Glasgow attempt, and it was this bit which the author used as his main point, and also the bit that got me thinking. As you may or may not know, the people responsible for the Glasgow bomb attempt were apprehended; one was wrestled to the ground whilst burning in flames screaming "Allah! Allah!". The man who apprehended him described the event in a TV interview. In addition, many witnesses who were there at the time apparantly were all shouting "let the bastards burn!".
The response by the government was swift. As we know, the government held a Cobra meeting and began hunting down down suspects. But that wasn't all: they also saw fit to censor the affore mentioned comments and the TV interview was not aired again. This demonstates quite clearly the governments attitude to the Islamic religion and terrorists.
"Welcome to the UK! Feel free to come in! We won't run any background checks on you or reject your immigration just because of your views. Oh, and don't worry about anyone saying anything to you; if they do then we will just arrest them for racial abuse."
So, while the government is giving more rights to immigrants who want to blow up our country, and ensuring that anyone who speaks out is marked as a 'rascist', they are not doing their proper job: ensuring the security of the nation. Its complete bo**ocks.
On a final note, lets not forget the human rights group. Ah, yes. They are as bad as the government. Their intentions are good, but unfortunately there is a time and place for human rights. When a terrorist is trying to blow up a nightclub and he is arrested, it is NOT a smart time to start complaining about his rights. And of course the government, who has more respect for its own integrety than the people and their safety, gives in to them. This begs the question: who is running the country? Well, I can answer at least part of that; its certainly not the people.
