I recently subscribed to it, and it has slowly sucked away most of my free time. It's a whole lot of fun, especially when you find a good squad to play with. So, does anyone else play it? And what squad/brigade do you usually play in?

I have played on and off for the last few years just to see what they have improved on. It has gotten tons better over the years. Gonna have to try it out now with their re-release version.

I need to get Battleground Europe. When does it come to the US? More importantly, how much is it per month? And do either of you have the "buddy key" from the box? I really wanna try pleeeeese :D

You can download it off their website. The download is free (and small, it's only 350 mbs), but you have to purchase and activation key to play it online. It's only $20.00. The monthly cost is $14.99, or you can go with a prepay plan, which is $60.00 for 6 months, or $100.00 for the whole year.

I didn't like the game play to much, it was too boring the maps are too huge. I have a Free key trial for 14 days, if anyone wants to give it a try let me know I'll e-mail you the key.

Yes, I actually have a friend who is dying to try it out. And since I myself don't have a key, I would be greatly appreciative if you can e-mail/PM it too me.

Thanks.

I thought about it, but it seemed an awful amount of money for what I was seeing.

I agree. I think games like World of Warcraft are awful and just cash in on the whole "Live your own life, teenagers. Be free!" thing. I tried the 30-day trial and i hated it! Guild wars is free, though... might wanna check that out.

i was recently subscribed to world war 2 online, and i must say i didnt really like it all that much, there was a steep learning curve to people who are just picking it up and playing it.(yes i know there is an offline tutorial kinda of thing) but even with this offline tutorial there were some things that werent explained in detail, and it didnt even appear in the instruction manual.

that said i also subscribe to WoW, and i enjoy my time in it very much, i have subscribed to it for just over a year so far and dont regret spending my money on it. :) i also have guild wars and it doesnt even match the quality that is WoW :).

I don't really like the pay per month deal. I'd rather pay a price, and get it over with even if it's a steeper price. The graphics leave some to be desired, but the concept is pretty good. Looks interesting! Thanks for the link.. :)

I tried the game an I didn't like it. The graphics were terrible and people the enemy had a tendancy to shoot me from out of nowhere.

Also, I will never, ever pay subscription fees for an online game. I tried it once and it was just a waste of good money.

Personally I didn't like it either, not because of the graphics but the parts like mobile spawnpoints in half-tracks, etc...

The concept is great though, I hope 1944 will kick their arses and will be enjoyable among the Germans aswell... ;)

I mean I'd like to play as a Jerrie too sometimes... :D
As of yet I haven't seen any WW2 game on which you can play on the German side in singleplayer...

yeh wwii online is great fun. i heard they added snipers though and that sounds like it could have ruined the game. i don't know, ill resubscibe in summer.

You will only find about 6 snipers avaliable most times in a town and they deminish real quick. Its a great feature in the right hands, Can finally get my revenge at those Church campers.

Yeah, I played that game. When they get better animations, models, and graphics, then I will play the game. Until then, I really can't bear the game. I'm sorry, but it's just not fun shooting at something you can't identify.

You can say whatever you want about the graphics, the gameplay is where it's at. Nothing beats a 12 hour firefight for one little town.

DavidUpton

All very good and well, but I found it next to impossible to actually see the enemy, which means I can't shoot them, which means I die.

I just got a month to test it out and it has improved a lot over the last little while.. Infact it is kinda fun when some team work starts happing. Now I gotta find myself a German squad to join.

I have got a month's subscription for it, but haven't really grown into the game. There have been moments where the game grew exciting. Rushing down a road with 30 others behind you, the tell tale sound of the dreaded 88" bawling out, and the rumble of Churchills behind you.

Probably the closest experience to war you can get right now. However, you have to be patient. I advise strong Medal of Honor or Call of Duty players to back away from this game. Like real warfare, there are moments in this game where there will be no sign of fighting whatsoever, you may be perhaps miles away from the frontline, taking supplies to forward positions. Also, combat differs from any other FPS out there. In such an expansive world, there are enemy everywhere, and your team is there to help you. I guarentee, that if you approach a town that is dead-quiet, and then proceed to run to the nearest building, a well aimed rifle bullet will strike you down.

The 16th Infantry Division would be a great choice! www.16ID.com (http://www.16ID.com)

Sorry, couldn't resist the shameless plug.

As for Jimmy's post, he's pretty much spot on, on everything. This game is not for everyone.

Actually, I'm going to change my statement of WWIIOL a little. The concept of the game is good. The idea of a large scale virtual war being fought by thousands of people is nice (bring on 1944 D-Day) but technologically it has a long way to go.

Its an old game, with a dated engine, but there are improvements made constantly. The new Enfield rifles for example, and new fully 3D buildings being imported into the world constantly. The vehicle models still remain the best looking objects in the game.

The only time you will sit in awe at what is on the screen is at night. The AA batteries ripping up the skies and bombers conducting midnight raids.

But, the fun of this game lies in its hardcore gameplay. You really do have to want to play to enjoy it.

What are the differences in WW2 Online and 1944? Both are hardcore realism games, right? I think the use of save game/spawn points will be different but other differences? (I did try the WW2 offline demo but couldn't get it to work.)

I too hope that 1944 doesn't go the monthly payment route. I'll pay 50 dollars for a game, but not 30 dollars for the game then 15 dollars each month for a game I plan on playing for 2-3+ years.

I know it's hard to compare a game that's been out for 7 years and one that is almost Alpha but I was wondering. Thanks.

You will not have to pay a subscription to play multiplayer. There will be a few servers that you will have to pay to play on, but the majority will be free.

Now that you mentioned it, I do recall reading that in the FAQ, sry. :o

Wonder if the FAQ / Q&A could be put in .pdf form and sent to all newly registered members. Then I could study it until it was learned. (j/k) :)

Any other differences? Besides spawn points, mostly free servers, and (probably) graphics?

What I like about hearing with 1944 is that, well, there will be computer controlled units to fill the void so to say. When I played WWIIOL the feeling was very empty in that it did not seem as though there were as many men as there should have been. Attacking a major city you might run in to groups of 1-2 guys, or maybe a tank. Seems as though there should be more.

Still a fun experience. I only played the trial and it sapped a lot of my time -- but I made it to Unteroffizier in that span of time :D

Really wish I could play again though. Albeit the lack of a joystick causes problems what with being restricted entirely to infantry.

Oh well. I've got some good memories from the game.

I loved WWII Online, got a copy to review back soon after initial release (was one of the first people in the Uk to get hold of a copy). Every time i have played it I have had moments that have stuck with me ever since, and with time you forget about the negatives, the hours spent waiting for attacks that don't come.

But when you get in a squad on an assault and it's full on combined arms with tank and artillery support and even close air support flying just ahead of the main column then you remember why it is so special. No other game has quite managed to top that.

As much as i love RO and as great as some momenst can be when teamplay works, it can't quite compare to the scale and flexibility of WWII Online, it is never the same game twice tbh.

they already promised a non subsprcition type buy.

Why would you play this wwiionline, when you could just sit on these forums and wait anxiously for this game to come out and rox the soxz off battleground europe. maybe find a way to lend a hand and help the effort over here so we rox de soxs off suna!

I've always loved playing this game, so many memorable moments; sapping raids on Dusseldorf, my first few tank kills, being a mission leader, the defense of Gent, the raid on Oostende, and heavy firefights.

The point is some people like this game and some don't, it is just what you personally like. For me, this game is a prime example of being in the right place at the right time. Sometimes you make it in time for the big firefight or get that long kill streak. Sometimes you don't but hey.. it's war.
